Two poems by students at Renaissance Campus follow. This winter session, the students worked on the idea of gifts, letters, and secrets.
Imprisoned
loud, impulsive
she smiles.
down, gone and out.
She went berserk for awhile.
neurotransmitters—Malfunction
radioactive—Brainwaves
infuriating! Pulsating!
the temptation is creating a
crescendo
that screams Angrily
at brainwaves
that pump through the veins…
And send signals
to parts
significantly drenched
with masochistic cravings…
Leaving the fist of reckleness
clenched.
Tight, tight.
Tight around that pretty little thing.
Now the detox is over, she thinks she’ll be fine
Body, regenerated.
Mind, ready to take it.
She hides in her closet
She hides in her closet,
Listening.
Listening, through her hand-covered ears
wondering what it would be like
without any closets.
Suddenly… Silence…
She turns the knob
Comes out wearing a smile
Wearing her mask
Smiling.
