Come Fly with Me! at Holley Elementary School

Video of a Young Audiences dance workshop with Holley Elementary School Kindergarten students. The Come Fly with Me! residency is a collaboration between Teaching Artist Elizabeth Clark and Physical Education Teacher Jill Mann, and is part of the Young Audiences national network’s MetLife Dance for Life initiative, made possible with the support of the MetLife Foundation, Young Audiences affiliates, and the individual schools.

Come Fly with Me! is a dance and physical fitness residency that weaves together physical literacy, dance literacy, and verbal literacy through dances representing different types of flight. Kindergarten through 4th grade students at Young Audiences WNY partner school Holley Elementary work with professional dancer and teaching artist Elizabeth Clark. Ms. Clark and Holley Physical Education teacher, Jill Mann, have collaborated for over six years, and the depth of their communication shows in how well physical education and dance education are integrated in this residency. The program also reinforces vocabulary, literacy, and life skills while teaching children to move safely through space together. Come Fly with Me! increases students’ physical fitness levels, their familiarity with dance as an art form, and their confidence as creative and expressive individuals. Watch as Kindergarten students work with Ms. Clark and Ms. Mann to learn the “Little Duck” dance and recreate the motions of a softly falling snowflake.
